I was having problems with this print and I think I figured out an issue. There is a piece at the top of the screw that is not connected to anything which makes the printer string like crazy and ends up knocking off the print. I attached a couple pictures with section views and the unconnected piece indicated in red. Looking at other peoples versions of this lift, this piece is normally connected to the screw.

Great troubleshooting! I made this derivative because my printer at the time was unable to print the original file. That piece always fused to the block above it, so I separated it. Try printing the original and see if you get less stringing. Newer printers are much better than they used to be, so it may be more harm than good on a new printer.

Made this print on my new Cetus 3 printer. Worked great!

is the correct orientation to print this model as you have it in the picture of the STL on this thing? just curious as i would like to print this and would certainly like to print it in the correct orientation the first time around lol!

I am assuming it is the correct way to set it on the build plate, seeing the flat bottoms to the hardware screws on the side. I just wanted to be sure and ask here as y'all seem to have printed the model already and would know what to do.

Yes, the blue rendering is the correct orientation.

I'm new to this and trying to learn as much as I can by doing. I printed this and it came out fine, but a few of the parts were pretty stuck to each other. So here is what happened: I turned the screw and the shaft snapped (I wasn't turning it hard), I used my chisel to gently try and pry the fused sections apart and I got it mostly there but then some of the structured snapped along the print lines.

I noticed after the fact that one side of the platform had an entire layer or printed material separated from the other layers.

I used cura to convert the STL file to gcode for my printer and I had to adjust a few things. My printer can only print up to 230c, so I adjusted the temp from 240 to 230. I don't think this will matter all that much considering almost all of my previous prints have a lower print temp. The fill was 5% and I didn't adjust this. I suspect increasing the fill would add more strength to some of the structure. Any advice on how to get a print that will work?

I would try to print it at 15% fill. Also, what printer are you using and with what material? Are the parts fused to each other only where the print touched the platform or was it along the length of the print?

It's hard to tell where the fusing is occurring since I have to nearly destroy the final result in order to separate it. I am using a wanhao i3 with a mk10 print head. Using PLA on a .4mm extruder.

I have adjusted a few of the settings and am going to try to print again.

Is it possible that the brittleness of the prints is a result of my calibration? The sample files that came with the printer came out much better.

I've been printing a raft because I noticed that even with the sample prints the first layer almost always has issues. But everything seems to work fine by the second layer.

Ok, I reprinted with a little more success this time. The arms were sticking to the platform sides. I was able to free them with judicious use of my Swiss army knife. But the screw head broke off when I tried to turn it. This particular malady has happened in all 3 of the prints even with a higher fill rate (20%).

I don't think my printer is actually up to this task. Thanks for the help!

I am sorry to hear that. 2 final suggestions;
1) try printing at 230 c with a fan blowing LIGHTLY at the printer
2) try a different filament brand: some just won't make usable prints...

Still new to the replicator 1 but what was the reason for adding an extra plate to the heating bed instead of just applying tape to bed derectly ?

My bed was slightly off-level and I wanted to have a removable bed. If a print is really stuck on the plate, I can take the plate off and chisel and pull on it as much as I want without breaking my printer :). I also like that the glass wont get scratched by my tools.

Can you fix the tolerances so I can print it at 60%? When I scale it down it fuses together.

Any help is great!

Nope, same as the original! No supports needed!

Great! I will print a big one now I was planning to use it to raise and / or lower my computer screen at work.

I don't know if it can handle that much weight, but you can certainly try! Please let me know how it goes!

I changed the screw mechanism so it won't be as prone to fusing to the rest of the chassis.
