I might modify this design and put inside a raspberry pi zero, because I could maybe find room for a battery, and I wouldn't have to unsolder the GPIO pins. Although I guess you would then need to convert the mini-usb to usb. Or maybe you could add bluetooth and use a bluetooth controller. Cool design! :D

thnx :-)
would be cool to see a remix! with the additional space you could include a usb-socket (either via OTG adapter kabel, or soldered to the usb pads, since the zero exposes those)

Good idea :) I could look at doing that

Think about it, If you build a lipo and an Adafuit Power Boost 1000 C you could mount the pi on top of the controller and have a really cool portable. I know there are similar projects but you cant compete with these buttons.

i'm currently thinking about designing/creating another controller module, with mountingpoints for a cellphone "emergency-battery pack" (so two new modules) - as additions to this core block :-)

Fantastic! Your A+ is looking a lot like mine for a similar project (which will be posted once it's actually complete) where i've gone and de-soldered the GPIO pins from both the tft and the Pi, but then gone and removed the HDMI, USB socket, Display and camera connectors too...
I like the idea of using a DIP socket for the connection :)
