This is wonderful, thanks! It is easily as much fun to have as it looks like it should be. Also with the weight of plastic and the screws it feels substantial.

Just a note on the assembly instructions in the comments here: We found that the six-corner faces were for the small gears. There are 8 six-corner faces, and 8 small gears. We originally started putting it together with the large gears on the six-corner faces but it wouldn't all fit together in that configuration.

Fantastic design - I'm printing the various parts now but how on earth do I work out which piece gets bolted to where on the core?

thanks for the probs, but this is a remix, the design is not my idea! i´ve just reorganized the holes to fit DIN 912 screws and added some big gears with different shapes to hold and turn the final thing easyer... ;)

the Core has two different types of faces. there are faces with 6 corners and faces with 5 corners. the faces with 5 corners belong to the plugs and the small gears. the 6-corner faces are for the big gears.

best way to start is to bolt the big gears on the 6 corner faces. after that you see that two big gears have a small gap, this small gap needs to be filled with two of the "noses" from the plugs.(look at the pics) the 5-corner faces wich left over are the ones wich take the small gears...

I think you are underplaying your hand in the design - I've looked at the one you remixed; I think the aesthetic feel of the plugs and the chunky handles are great and make a big improvement to the overall design.

you need 12 plugs!

Could it be scaled down 50 %? I cant print it so big in my Rostock :(

the hole Diameters are 6,3mm and 11mm (for the screw head)

scaled to 50% should give you 3,15 and 5,5mm. M3 Screw is 2,9 and 5,4mm -> should fit, but could get a bit tight at the head of the screw...

alternative: you can scale down to 83,333% for M5 or 66,666% for M4 screws... ;)

i am not following you scaling. so if I scale by 0.5 in slic3r I can run M3 screws but what length would I need them to be? Thanks.

50% of a 20mm screw is 10mm... ;)

if you want M3 why you dont take this one???
