I just printed this out, and the print itself went excellently! Thanks for designing this. I do have a question, though: how did you all attach this to your 3D20? I removed the default spool holder, and the hex screws that came with it now just slide in and out of the holes in the frame. The spool holder itself fits perfectly over the two pegs and the screw hole, but the hex screw itself doesn't "hold." Did you all use a different screw? If so, what kind?

First of all thanks for making this. I did have some issues with this build but I am closer now. I agree with the below on changing the direction of the spool holder. The supports caused all sorts of issues since the spool shaft was no longer round. I changed the direction and reprinted and had a beautiful spool holder. I then proceeded to crack it in half removing it from the board. Yes I am new to this. I am printing another now lol.

That being said my question is this. I printed out an adapter and tested it on my broken spool holder and it would not fit. No one seems to be having this issue so I thought I would ask for some suggestions. The one I printed was the Holder_Adapters.stl. I have a MicroCenter close by and they have Inland Brand PLA spools and this adapter does fit that but not much good if it does not fit on the spool holder. In looking at the Dremel Digilab 3D Slicer app, it looks like maybe I could enlarge the cylinder but I guess my point is, am I missing something?

I have been building this with the Dremel white PLA that came with the 3D20.

Suggestions?

ok just a follow up on this. I ended up sanding the spool holder to get it to spin with an adapter attached. Am I the only one that had this issue? With the default Dremel PLA Spool I had plenty of room. Using an adapter though, not even close.

I printed and installed this the other day in my 3d20 and it is working great! I just wanted to drop a thank you for the design.

Also, for anyone who cares, the GizmoDorks adapter fits the 3D Solutech 1kg filament spools I’m using.

One additional printing tip, I recommend rotating the Spool Holder onto its back when you print it (spool shaft pointing up). This allows for more contact with the print bed and eliminates the need for supports. Saving you plastic and reducing the chance of print errors.

So I gave this a shot since the Inventor I series is very similar. I've noticed that the turbo fan duct hits the reel. If it was lowered about 13 mm it would miss the duct and work great. I used Hatchbox filament in this and everything seemed to work fine. I did have to tap the holes to a 6-32 due to the nuts for the original holders not being attached (poor design on Flashforge's side). I also had to redrill the mounting holes to accommodate the bigger cap screw. The other thing I noticed is that the spools are a bear to get on with the plate in the way. So loosening the mounting bolts seemed to allow for it.

My mounting holes lined up perfectly though. Thanks for work you put into it!

Update:
I was able to print an updated duct for the extruder in link below and was able to miss the reel completely. Now working on something for the other side. Sadly the stepper motor is in the way for the reel.

Printed and installed today, it works great! Thank you!

Adapter-PrototypeSupply.stl works for Hatchbox and CasiusTech also.

Sorry if I'm misunderstanding but does this allow you to hold 1Kg spools internally?

Yes, it does. I've updated the description to make sure that's more clear. Thanks!

Could you please type down the different diameters of the adapters?

Don't be fooled. Looks cool, but does NOT work on the Dremel Idea builder 3D20. This thing is extremely misaligned on it. Don't waste your time.

This is meant for the 3D20 original Dremel Idea Builder, so I'm not sure why it's not working for you, MOKHANN.

What model are you referring to as "ORIGINAL Dremel Idea Builder"? I thought the 3D20 was the original. I can't seem to find any earlier model online.

I just checked the label on the side of my Dremel. It is a 3D20. I'm not sure why MOKHANN had trouble.

I think the confusion is from you saying specifically it's NOT for the 3d20, when I think you meant it IS for the 3d20, right?

No problem. The 3D20 IS the original Idea Builder. I'll post photos of the misalignment tomorrow. Thanks, though, for making this for the people it did work for.

When i port the file into makerbot, only the large spool shows up. What am I doing wrong?

I just uploaded the individual pieces in STL format. Hopefully the separate files will load properly.

I just opened it in repetier host and it seems to function that way. Just a weird glitch I guess. Thanks for the individual files!

Thanks so much ! great work do you have the original file stp file so I can adjust please, also I just need to print 2 things how do i do that? thanks

I just uploaded the individual pieces in STL format. I'm not familiar with STP. I used "123d Design" by Autodesk (http://www.123dapp.com/design). You can open the 123dx file with that app and edit it easily. To export individual pieces from 123d Design, just select, then hide the other pieces before exporting.

thanks so much I will retry now and report back to you.
