Thanks for the feedback ehud42. Originally I was concerned about the problem you have mentioned with printing the rings separately and then them separating if glued.

I am going to try decreasing the width of each ring which will reduce material and time. The model at the moment is currently very rigid and strong - perhaps too strong for its applciation. Also, there is room to decrease the thickness of the base which is probably too thick.

I do like the concept of modular rings that snap together. I agree that printing the rings upside down will avoid the need for supports.

I'll provide changes as they are made.

Could you break the rings apart and flip them upside down (in the stl file)? That might avoid the need for support material and make it more modular. I tried designing one a while ago (http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:342960). Now that it's been in the field for many months, the rings are separating - but that is because I friction fit and white glued them.

I like the style of yours - and I'm thinking that by printing making the rings separate, printed upside down, and joined with screws or twist locking tabs would work well.
