Thanks for posting this!Excellent design!!!Loved the countersunk screws.
Printed at 0.2mm layer with two walls. That was a mistake.I should have gone for 4.One of the threads got ripped.
I used M3X16 screws instead of the recommended M3X20.
It would be nice if you posted stl files with each part separately.Just in case anything goes wrong or someone hasn't tuned his retraction settings.

if you extend the legs, you can also use it to measure external angles and transcribe them to new cuts... their is something similar on "as seen on tv"

Where are the end pieces?

what the max width this tools can handle?

You can see one being printed on a PrinrBot Simple here:

Model aircraft enthusiasts call this a "hinge slotter" (for centering hinges along the trailing edge of an aircraft wing).

It might be worth adding this to your tags, as I only came across this because it showed up on the front page today. ;-)

everybody can add tags ;)

Thanks for this tool!
I was more than once angry at measuring 4 times an still not hitting the middle ;)
As i was missing the screws you used i made a customized model based on your design. (Thing 725344)

when i go to download this piece and open it in makerware i cannot get the two small end pieces to download.

I had the same issue, I use Cura. I opened it in Slic3r and all the pieces were there fine.

there are two files, one with 4 and one with 5 pieces, what is missing ?

when i download the files they both only have one piece each. one has the metal piece that has the 3 holes and the other file has the tall side piece

Clever useful tool! These are the gems I like to see on Thingiverse.

Nice work. I will make one. See my thing of a center point marker.

It is more complicated but will find centers on round dowel.
Thanks for sharing this.

Center Point Marker Device

had seen it before, a nice one, but that would be something I would prefer to be made out of milled aluminium to have the pieces slide smooth against each other.

Cool. This thing reminds me of a commercial product called an Incra Gauge. Less than $20 and lets you find centers, depth of cut, distances, repeatable to 1/32". Very handy, like this featured tool. One of my most used tools. I'm going to print one of these too.

How can it be that this is suddenly featured? I went to thingiverse to download this stl because I saw it before and all of a sudden it's right there on the frontpage :)

Coincedence? Nah. Fate baby! I gotta print this right now.

I've been looking for a Yellow like this! What brand and material?

I used colorfabb XT yellow

I have one that looks VERY similar.
it is:
Hatchbox Yellow PLA.
I got 1 KG for 20$ on amazon.

To extend it's use for finding a center of a circular piece add slots (parallel to the bars length) on both sides of the existing holes of the drawing bar, Then to find the center of the circle, center it roughly on the circle then mark the piece through the slots, rotate the piece roughly 90 degrees, mark again. Now draw lines connecting both pairs of markings and the intersection should be the center. This does require that the piece is perfectly circular to start with.

For diameters smaller than the parallelogram face separation you can just run a scribe or pencil down the edge of the centre bar.

Repeat in 2nd position.

Brilliant! It's so simple!! :-)
