All we need now is a clay extruder (would the frosting extruder work?) so we can oven/kiln-fire fabjects for even more extreme temperatures!


If this works, it opens up the possibility of other printable heads! The frosting extruder, for example, could be made like this. (And you wouldn't have to worry about melting the ABS)

Are you sure the heater is insulated well enough to prevent some of the plastics from melting?

of course not! but, we'll never know until we actually use it.

however, the PTFE insulation does a pretty good job, and the last extruder design used acrylic in place of the ABS. acrylic melts from 130-140C. ABS will melt from 108-128C. Seeing as how the PTFE insulator never gets too hot to touch (especially at the top) I'm pretty confident that this will work.
