just made this, any suggested ammo?

Do you need a special plastic filament or could I just use regular PLA?

Regular PLA or even ABS should be just fine.

that doesn't work!!!! i tried it

What was wrong with the design for you? A few suggestions:
Print it with the orientation shown in the photos but also with support. Standard Replicator 2 support will work, but if your using slicer make it rectilinear with a 3-4mm separation and a 5 degree rotation.

When attaching the rope, make sure its slightly pre-tensioned. Put the bow part in a clamp and move it in a few millimeters, then glue the rope in with superglue. This is what worked for me, and my crossbow is still working.

What type of failure have you had?

it really works?

Yep. I even have video to prove it. Maybe only useful for office warfare.

Can this thing kill small game such as squirrel, rabbit, quail, etc.

Yes, but, it is made for taking down bigger game including, Bears, Deer, Sharks, and Yeti.

what are the dimensions of this please?

how does the part below (above when righted) the trigger get printed with no support? just tried printing this with no adjustments and the back end is a mess....

I printed with support material. In Slic3r I set it to a rectilinear pattern with 2.5mm spacing with a 5 degree rotational offset.

Interesting idea.

Was it printed in ABS? (just guessing based on the smooth bottom)

Yes its all ABS. Heated build platform. The printrbot build platform makes the bottom really smooth.
