Sweet model dude!
I'm particularly impressed buy the detailing on the cloths and the optimization of the mesh, I've seen remixes that exponentially increase the file size too little qualitative improvement .
Did u modle this or was it a scan?

Just an FYI that this Hotei, The Spirit of Money! Not THE Buddha. Thanks for my friends in pointing this out. In my Google search he is often referred to as "laughing buddha" to make it even more confusion. Either way I think it brings good luck to print and carry one around!

That is statue of "Bodhidharma" or "Dharma", a Buddhist monk living in 5th century A.D.
He was originally from Indian subcontinent, but exact location of his origin is disputed.
But he came to China and left significant legend and tradition in Chinese culture.

He is the supposed originator of Saolin Temple style KungFu.

Buddha (aka Siddhārtha Gautama aka Shakyamuni) lived in 5th century B.C. and he was never fat, and never bald.

Bodhidharma is represented as smiling and with round bulging belly only in Chinese tradition.
and became "spirit of money" in more recent history, probably less than couple hundred years ago.

calling Bodhidharma statue as Buddha would be as absurd as calling Santa Claus statue as Jesus Christ.

good to know.. even my stupid asian relatives think its the laughing Buddha and say rubbing his belly will bring wealth ><

Which printer are you printing with? I used the Afinia I didn't have any problems what so ever.

Having all sorts of trouble with this print. Something hinky happens in the slice (either with slic3r or skeinforge) and the print comes out all sorts of messed up. Will play with meshlab and see if I can figure out what the problem is

Anyone? I have tried 3 different slicers with this model and every single one produces a gcode that makes the printer freak out on the very first layer.

Framingr, I was having the same problem with it going crazy on the first few layers. It's because the bottom of the file is not flat at all and is rather lumpy, so it tries to print small islands first. I chopped a little off the bottom to get a flat base, and it is printing fine now. The modified file can be found here http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:50280http://www.thingiverse.com/thi...
