Maybe I got lucky but I'm really impressed with how nicely that latch is working. The hinge work that Athey did is also working incredibly well. Excellent work all around.

Hi all. What would be the ideal dimensions to use this as a box for an engagement ring?

Oh yeah, forgot to mention. My remix of it (http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:1026251) was printed on a Replicator 2, PLA, 0.2mm layer height, sliced using Makerware. Gotta mention again how much I liked the design! Not too many that have functional hinges AND latches AND can be printed relatively small aka cheaply and quickly. :)

Fantastic! Only downside I noticed when I printed the hinge was it was very difficult to snap the lid into place. I was afraid I would break it so I ended up shaving the nubby bits so they fit better in the holes. And of course, since it is a friction based hinge, the more the hinge was used the more worn out and loose the hinge became. But that is an intrinsic problem of friction based hinges printed in plastic, and it has been about a year now and the thing hasn't fallen apart and still works, so I consider that fantastic!

Does the lid print without support material? It looks like the angles would be too steep at the top of the box...

It is too steep, good eye on you. Without supports it prints with some sloppiness. But it's hidden sloppiness, so it's easy to ignore.

I love how "Thingiverse" no longer shows when a thing was published Anyway great model as usual. I'm trying to print it right now.
