Though bees tend to dislike plastic in their hives, applications like full plastic frames show success in hive health. Have you considered or attempted to make a full scale Langstroth hive for your bees?

This model is great! It has excellent detail and all parts printed well. I'm using it in a honeybee exhibit. Thank you!

Is the entrance reducer not included in the model files?

There's an entrance reducer in the Assembled_Hive.obj

Ok, so after its printed it pops out? (I'm rather new to 3D printing)

You really have to separate all the components and lay them out for your/the printer. Once everything is printed, you can just assemble the pieces. There are a number of free applications out there that can open obj files. I use Blender.

Ah, ok. Well, my school's printers only use .stl files so I had to convert them.

Could you also upload these files in .stl format?

Could you also upload these files in .stl format?

I love the idea, thanks.

It might be interesting to print this in pieces rather like wood frames. Or perhaps print it as end caps that could be added to a dowel or something similar. Thanks for getting me thinking about printable hives!

I modeled this with the idea of having a pocket beehive so I could explain to people how hive components work. The model is missing a bottom bar groove for the sake of reducing detail. In reality I find that bees hate plastic anything in the hive.

I've actually thought about printing queen rearing equipment, and designing my own queen cages. I'm a new beekeeper, so I'll probably have to try my hand at doing it with more traditional methods before finding ways of bettering my process.

Why do you think that bees hate plastic? There are plastic hives available now not to mention the flow hive frames which are plastic.

I've thought about the plastic bit and I'm wondering how they would respond to PLA especially since it's technically a sugar.

you make a good point i havent thought of that
