Thanks so much for this! I printed up a couple of these last night as I realized I needed a thimble and didn't have one. Works beautifully. :)

Thanks for your kind words! We're glad you liked our 3D-printable thimble! :)

What is the use of a large thimble?

Yes jpzank. The large thimble was just an upscaled version of the 16 mm STL thimble file in this thing.

Anyone here want to sell me the very large thimble?

Sure! :)

Please feel free to submit a request to our 3D Hubs channel. http://www.3dhubs.com/halmstad/hubs/ct-halmstad

This is so great! You see they DO NOT MAKE thimbles for my sized hands. So I ended up making myself some out of epoxy putty and/or polymer clay. See my instructable here: http://www.instructables.com/id/MANLY-MAN-sized-MAN-thimbles/

I went right to the 18mm size and I could probably make that a bit bigger, as it's rather snug. Our most prominent seamstress at TechShop Chandler commented that I should print it out of ninjaflex fleixble medium. Which I thought was a good idea.

For anyone who wants to give the giant thimble a try we uploaded the file Thimble200x200x203mm(outer_dimensions).stl.

Thanks! Loved the article! :)

Great model! What are the exact settings you guys used to printed photographed models?.. I want to try the same settings and compare results. Thanks

Thanks! The models where printed on a MakerBot Replicator 2 3D printer with PLA plastic filament. The settings where simple. Just choose High resolution in MakerWare, four shells and zero infill, as well as 30 mm/s for speed.

For those interested, the CAD original is 3DM (Rhino), but IGS and SAT (ACIS) files were also exported and included in the zip.

Thanks for clarifying the file formats. :)
