Any advice on how can I make a design similar to this? What software did you use?

Hiya! I didn't create the original model, but it's listed as "Remixed From" on the main tab. As for clipping off the corners to make it fit, I just used OpenSCAD to load and alter the model.

Anyone know the print time?

Guessing it's quite long

The print is going to vary wildly on your settings (esp. layer height and XY-speed). I don't remember the print time for the pictured mask, as it just got rounded up to being "overnight" in length.

At 30mm/s perim, with a 0.4mm layer height it took about 12h. I did scale it up a little bit (5%).

I'm not a pro, but somebody needs to modify this into a Kryten (from Red Dwarf) mask/prosthetic. :-)

This one has a nice size, BUT the wall thickness is just way too thick. Is there a possibility to make it less thick?

I imagine it cold be thinned, although the best idea I have for attempting that would be to use Blender and attempt a backwards translation of the vertices on the front face.

As for asking the original modelers to make a thinner version, I recommend stepping up to the parent thing, since The3DLibrary were the ones to create the 3D design (I just shaved a tiny bit off to fit it into my printer).

Hehe, still though, I liked the thickness when I was wearing the mask, as it gave it the feel of being made out of (high-tech) wood.

We were going to make our design better for many printers and make it a bit easier to print but we have not had the time to do so.

No worries! It was easy to trim the little bit off to keep RepG from yelling at me. :)

This will make it easier to print, but perhaps I was just lucky, but I printed the original mask on my Replicator. The Replicator's print area is larger than the build platform, and trick )IMO) was to shift it forward so that the base of the chin is very close to the front edge. While the front and back of the mask are outside of the rectangle of the build platform, the extruder has some extra space that it can move in, so it printed fine. At least, mine did.

Yeah, I had guessed as much. The reason I went conservative is that this was being printed the night before the party I needed it for. (needed it to work on the first try)

Good idea!

154mm x 150mm x 150mm going to print now. Just folded one of these last week, looking forward to printing! Thanks!

Interesting. I was using the Replicator 1 shop-page (http://store.makerbot.com/replicator-404.html)http://store.makerbot.com/repl... to set my clipping volume. That page says:
Build envelope 225 x 145 x 150 mm | 8.9 x 5.7 x 5.9 in

Even with an envelope of 225x150x150, some clipping is required on the back and top to make the whole thing fit.

Or am I misinterpreting what you meant? Are you saying this model is 154x150x150? If so, I'm confused since it's being intersected with a 200x145x150 cube in clipping.scad.
