Meet #3DTakoTuesday, a cute, stackable octopus with a variety of expressive eye options to fit your mood. "Tako" (たこ) is Japanese for octopus. I designed this to improve/practice my Fusion 360 skills. Feel free to drop me a tip if you like my designs or just want to support my learning. THANK YOU and enjoy! I am looking forward to seeing your makes!
The main octopus parts are designed to be printed without supports and do not require a multi color/filament printer. Some of the eyes will make use of the filament change technique, where the print is paused at a certain layer height, so that the filament can be swapped before resuming. This can be done with:
- PrusaSlicer using color change
- Cura using: Extensions > Post processing > Modify G-code > Add a script > filament change
- Prusa's ColorPrint webapp ("G-code is supported from Slic3r, Cura, KISSlicer and Simplify3D.")
The customization doesn't stop at the eyes! Check out these accessories/remixes:
This is the main octopus body. The clearance determines the additional space for the holes for the eyes and lips. The amount of clearance depends on your printer's calibration/accuracy (too small of a clearance value might not allow the lips/eyes to fit into the body, while too large of a clearance value will make the lips/eyes fit too loosely).
This is the bottom/underside of the octopus's tentacles.
This is the octopus's lips part. The file's orientation should not require a brim, but feel free to use one if you encounter bed adhesion issues.
This is the top of the octopus's head.
The 100% scale size should be printable on most printers, requiring a print area of 110 mm x110 mm. The body part has a height of 64 mm.
use some superglue to secure the pieces that you want permanently attached during assembly
What combination of eyes can you come up with?
This is the octopus's "normal" eyes.
Large, cute eyes with 2 circiular "reflections". Requires support and filament color change.
X eyes that depict death. Requires support and filament color change.
Eyes with angry eyebrows. Note that there is a left and a right version. When reversed, the angry eyebrows become sad/concerned eyebrows.
Hearts as eyes.
Squinty eyes. Requires support and filament color change.
Extreme anger/demon eyes. Note that there is a left and a right version. Requires support and filament color change.
A wide-eyed staring/stunned/surprised look. Also works with the brain as zombie eyes. Requires support and filament color change.
A closed eye represented by a horizontal straight line. Requires support and filament color change.
Confused/dizzy look. Requires support and filament color change.
Closed eyes that represents a happy look. When turned upside down, can be used for a sleepy look. Requires support and filament color change.
Old school cartoon pie eye. Requires support and filament color change.
