I like this tree, but I have a couple suggestions. The branches on layer 7 need to be scaled down to match the size of the branches on layers 6 and 8. I also made an extra layer 3 and put it on the base below layer 1. I just like the rounded bottom effect it makes. You might also consider shortening the center posts as you get near the top of the tree. Maybe on layers 6,7,8 and 9. Slightly shorter on each one as you go? I didn't use 10 at all and I think i will make another star, scaled down slightly. I may sound too critical, but I'm only trying to help. All in all, a beautiful print project.

What is the standard size of the tree?

the size of branch 1 as provided is about 99 mm.

I have also printed it at 175% size

not quite sure what you were asking.

I printed a star by Knape https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:194864.
I think I scaled it down by 0.5, but I don't remember for sure.

HI, I just downloaded the files but all bar one are showing as zero bytes. I've tried twice for the same result. Cheers.

tbuser sent me a message that the download issue was fixed

I encountered the same problem with "download all files".
However, downloading files individually seemed to work.
I notified Thingiverse of the issue.

What filament did you use? That's really what makes this model for me.

I had used ABS plastic. glad you like the model.

I meant more like what color and brand?

Really like the design. I projected your STLs into DXFs in OpenSCAD and made a laser-cut version: http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:1274732

Laser-cut flat-pack Christmas tree

glad you could adapt the design. your tree looks great

Im not sure what it is, but there's something in this model that Cura really doesn't like. It takes forever to slice and I can only put a few branches on the bed at a time or it just hangs. With a couple of branches and walking away for 10mins to let it think it does eventually produce good gcode though. Really strange!

C_D: thanks for mentioning the issues. when I checked original files in netfabb, there issues. I exported them to new .stl files from a newer version of sketchup. now I do not see any issues in netfabb. enjoy

The new STL's look way better, thanks!

you are welcome

branches 8 and 9 are a little skinnier than the others so they fit on the trunk. this may be what's causing issues with slicer

awesome print! but has anyone else had problems with branch 8? I am using the updated version but, in slic3r it only codes for the perimeter of the branches and not the insides. weird that this is the only branch I'm having problems with

Nice prints.

Fastrack: thanks for the comment. I goofed. the bottom branches have a clearance of 0.5 mm on the diameter, the next have 1 mm clearance, the last has 2.5 mm clearance! I will fix this when I can. but in the meantime as you indicated, it can be glued together with acetone.

fixed in the 12.23.2012 update.

Printed 25%, 1 shell (2 in total) Print-o-matic.

Some of the other pins were quite loose. Branch 1-3 fit nicely. So did 4-6. The rest were quite loose. Branch 10 was not even close to fitting the branch9 pin.

I ended up gluing it together with ABS/Acetone mix.

Looks great!

thanx. nice print. like your tree topper
