This thing is an addition to the Gravitrax game allowing for more marbles to run along the track at once.
The idea for this model came to me after using the stock "Volcano" and "Splash" tiles.
Rather than having 3 marbles going 3 different directions, though, I wanted to have a "stream" of marbles in a snake-like formation all on the same track (to split them up, I can always use my Temple of Chaos later along the track).
The other good thing about this model is that it is "non-blocking", meaning the triggering marble just runs through it and continues after triggering it, it does not stop there like in the "Volcano" or "Splash" tiles. Even after triggering the "Follow Me" tile once, other marbles can run through it without being blocked.
Check out the Post Printing section on this page if you would like to see it in action!!
I designed the "marble tower" so that it has its own tower sections, but it is by all means compatible with the transparent tube sections from the Gravitrax "Lift" expansion. This means that if you have the "Lift" expansion, you can connect the tubes to other rail sections and have the marbles "fall" into the tower, filling it up and getting it ready for the passage of the triggering marble.
When printing this, pay attention to the following things:
- The bottom part of the "marble tower" should have a very tight fit with the tile it needs to be mounted on. If it is loose, add a layer of tape, or glue it in place
- The "latch" that swings to free the marbles needs to be able to turn freely. Be sure to sand the top face of the tile and the bottom face of the latch, as well as the circular holes it swings into, to ensure there is no friction
- The "guide" that helps keep the exiting marbles on track needs to be firmly fixed to the tile. Follow the same instructions as for the bottom part of the tower to secure it in place
If you make this, it would be awesome to see pics of your makes!
Note: I am in no way associated with Ravensburger or Gravitrax, this is just a design that is compatible with the Gravitrax system that provides functionality the stock parts do not.
I do this just for mere fun, but if you find my projects useful to enhance your Gravitrax experience, consider the idea of tipping me, I'd really appreciate it! :)
