After a long fruitless search for an existing 3D rendering of the Leviathan, and being turned down after requesting any such file from Bungie artists, I broke down and decided to just make my own based on gameplay and a nice detailed 2D drawing I found. Most of the Embarkment was drawn freestyle and based on observation during gameplay, but I think is close enough to make everyone happy.
I spent a solid 3 days drawing this up in Inventor (not the most appropriate software for this type of drawing), then another 3-4 days tweaking and ironing out the harsh imperfections. It's still not perfect, but it's close and I encourage those willing to remix it as they see fit and upload their makes.
I have not yet had the opportunity to purchase enough gold PLA filament to begin printing, plus my printer needs a replacement part. In order to achieve all details of the Embarkment, the model must be scaled up 1000%+ and print at the highest resolution possible.
Dedicated to my brother Hiram who is currently in Air Force basic training and got me hooked on Destiny. Please tip!!!
Other file types available upon request. See Print Settings for important details and recommendations.
Due to the large "scale" of the Leviathan relative to the Embarkment, the fine details will not appear in your print unless printed in excess of 1000% scale. This may not fit in all printers, but I chopped the main body of the Leviathan into four approximately "square" pieces so they can be uniformly scaled to fill print areas.
Print at the highest resolution possible (0.1mm layers or less, at least for the Embarkment) and at low speeds (approx. 30mm/s) for the highest quality of the finer details. Use the "Lay Flat" feature in your slicer to print the Embarkment from it's flat face.
Before printing, verify that all four pieces at the desired scale will fit in your build area, as to not waste valuable time and precious filament.
