So wonderful that you designed this! This is perfect for me because I have 2 cherry trees and this will make so much easier to pick cherries!
I can't wait to print it and use it!

I was going to remix this to accommodate plastic shopping bags instead of the DIY gauze pouch, then I realized you can just loop the handles around the teeth. Brilliant!

This is a great idea. Aside from cherries being a bit delicate for this method, I love it. I think ill Print one. Im also wondering how hard it would be to make a little motorized one with a blade, so that you could chop them off the tree instead, and therefore allowing them to be kept longer.

Most of the fruit needs to be picked with the stalk. Cherries for example won't last if picked in this way

Yep, it's perfect if you don't want cherries the year after ;-)
:-D

Or a couple days after.. It would make no difference if you were to do something with them and store them. Cherries especially will rot quickly when the stem is torn out. The only exception is if the stem comes off by itself and therefore not tearing the skin.

Well, it worked for me. But then we are only using the cherries for ourselves and have a tall tree where professional picking according to the proper ISO regulated cherry picking procedure is not required...
PS.
OK, all of you, let me tell you my secret trick for preventing the cherries from rotting. It is an old family secret and I am not sure if I am entitled to share it here. But anyways. Here it comes: The secret trick for preventing the cherries from rotting is: Eat them! Eat them right away! Well, not really right away. Wash them first. But right after washing: Eat them. I mean it. Or give them to someone else and make sure they eat them right away. After all, we don't want the cherries to rot. And if you are really really quick, they will not rot. I promise. It always works for me. You might also try making a fruit jam or a cake or whatever. But you really have to be quick about it. In fact, better make sure the oven for the cake is preheated before you start picking the cherries. And no facebook, no whats app, no thingiverse in between. No 3D printing either! The cherries are top priority here!

Outstanding response! You have a great idea. Thank you for sharing.

not so easy when if your family owns a orchard. Though the cherries that are a pain tend to be he tart cherries, which the stems almost always just pull out. We are planning to print a few of these for next year :)

This is awesome! need one for a mango tree

It's brilliant! I love it!! Printing one right now!

I was just wondering about something like this last week while picking cherries!

Well, almost the same here: Yesterday I noticed the cherries are getting ripe. Last night I designed the picking tool. This morning I printed and assembled it. This afternoon I picked the cherries with it. Now I guess that's some nice and easy to explain use case for rapid prototyping and for why everybody needs a 3D printer at home. Ok, probably I could have gone to the hardware shop and bought a fruit picker. It would have been quicker. But it wouldn't have been nearly as much fun. (And more expensive, too).
