Would you be willing to post a video of it spinning up? I would love to see how it behaves regardless if it flies or not.

Always wanted to do an EDF quad but I'm guessing the flight time will be awful. you'd probably want to use outrunners of a lower Kv with high pitch blades and lots of em. if the throttle range is too big it'll make corrections difficult so it will be a bit unstable.

There are no restorative moments on a vehicle of this type. It is by definition unstable and requires stability augmentation. An exponential adjustment on the transmitter may correct for non linear responses of control axis. The flight time is simply related to the battery capacity and current draw. Current draw is dictated by prop loading, which changes during flight. Flight times will vary*.

Good points, I was bringing up the flight times more from an efficiency point of view. Much better to swing a big prop slowly than a tiny prop quickly. As for control, with a lower momentum held in a smaller prop a greater throttle differential would be required for changes in yaw (as compared to a large slow prop setup). greater throttle differential is restricted by ultimate thrust delivery when looking at stability across the X & Y axis, and the longer spool up and down times. Food for thought :D.

ANy chance you could do an "Instructable" on the whole project with parts list etc and what controller you are using??  Looks great btw, like to use one at our Hackerspace.

Yes there are two common parts. The Body and the Canopy.

where do you get blades for it. I notice all yours are ccw.

 If all your fans rotate the same direction, you'll need to tilt two of them or you'll have no yaw control. (I've built a few this way myself.)

Yep. Do what you need to. The ducts don't produce torque the same as a large prop.

is it louder or quieter than ductless fans?
i suggest you print that in clear pla.. it will reflect the enviroment and stealthcloak the copter a bit.

I would guess it would be much louder than a standard quad.

What size motor/blades does it take
