I'm thinking of designing a shroud to cover the uglier bits on these - maybe they could have some non-permanent way to hold the wires. I didn't think of these as being permanent, though. They're just tie wraps.

Thanks for your response! I was strongly considering building your design, but while my headphones are similar, they are different enough that there would need to be a lot of design changes. I also figured all of the metal and especially the roller catches would add a lot of weight to the headset.

I decided to design my own mounts and - as I hope you don't mind - I used a cross-section of your clip design as the base for mine, then created the rest from scratch. Gave you credit on the Thing page!

It's not the prettiest, but I like this design a lot. The Quest clip seems like a safer, sturdier design choice compared to others I've seen. Doesn't look like this will require an ultra-high precision 3D printer, either, and it also won't require any specialized technical skill or too much monetary investment.

Do you think it would be easy to implement non-permanent cable routing? Maybe the cables could fit in the gap between the roller catch and the baseplate?
