I was fed up with the 4-way restrictor plate that came stock on my Street Fighter Arcade1up machine. It made playing the game practically unbearable so I decided to make my own 8-way restrictor plate insert that just slips into the middle of the original restrictor plate of the joysticks that came with the cabinet.
Now Hadokens and Shoryukens are WAY easier to execute and they feel MUCH more satisfying knowing all it took was a quick 3D printed piece. This should hold me over for quite some time before I feel like dropping more money on some better joysticks.
If you print this piece at 31mm (width/height) you should be good to go! Also, I made the diagonal directions slightly wider, so when you install this insert into the restrictor plate, make sure you align the locking pegs horizontally (the first position it can be locked in). Good luck!
I probably went through about 7 or 8 iterations before I decided this version felt the best.
Pro tip: If you're wondering how to remove the insert from the plate — with the two pegs facing you, push the insert towards you, then twist counter-clockwise and it will pop out from the back.
Check out the YouTube vid showing how I switch out the plate which includes a quick round of Ryu vs Guile to demo the insert in action ;)
