Made it, bought the parts, assembled it and was really disappointed. I wanted something to use on a small craft table inside that was kind of quiet small and didn't need much suction. Basically this is the lowest suction noisiest least cost effective vacuum I've ever had. I suppose it would work pretty good for smoke or a little but of airborne dust and it will pick up small particles from the table at full speed. At 12V the 775 motor I had would barely make a draft, at the full 36V 9000 rpm rating it did create a "vacuum" along with the most annoying constant whistle from the hose. Neat build, cool looking toy, basically useless. I have a cheap generic mini shop vac that works about 1000 times better and makes about the same amount of noise for less money. Enjoy!

grate idea! but, for make it working for cnc dust (working also with chips) try to shrink the enter air flow much more smaller! thats way there will be more suck power...

hi, things i would made are in the picture.

yellow -> nut traps .. i hate to holt nuts manually :-)
green -> a lid so that you can better clamp the cyclon against the box
white -> a seal for the lid

may be it would better to add an filter for small particles which actually blown out behind...

just my 2 cents :-)

is there some cheap version of a usable power supply for this? I can't just plug it into the outlet and don't have a fancy power supply like you do. It needs to be cheap for this to make economical sense.

A DC brushed motor doesn't need any kind of special power supply, just DC power. You can use any old laptop power supply or power brick then you hook it up to a DC variable voltage step down regulator to get it to 5 volts or whatever voltage is enough to run the motor at the desired speed.

Hello! I just saw this project on youtube - great work!. You asked for suggestions for improvements, so here is mine.. it seems like there is no lip at the end of the threads on the cyclone part to help create a better seal against the container.. a little lip (2-3mm, maybe more) could also help it from falling over if the lid of the box one is using is flimsy (like the one ou use for testing). Just my suggestion :)
