I was just thinking of doing one of these. Looked at using a cheap set of electronic scales and stripping the parts out. I opened the scales i use to weigh my filament and it has this type of load cell.

Yeah, I have it currently "working" with only serial text output. As soon as I have my OLED panel in hand, I'll get a github link up here for the software I've created, as well as a wiring diagram.

This is a really great idea! Were you able to get good results from the typical "ebay" cheapo cell? Or I guess alternatively what cell are you working with right now?

I should flag this as a WIP, because I have fitted everything EXCEPT the cell at this point. The one I have ordered is the 10kg cell from Banggood, with the HX711 driver board. It should work with any of those cells, assuming you go through the calibration procedure to find the scale factor and offset. I am currently working on a user interface for it to store the requisite data and keep track of multiple spool's remaining filament, driven by an Arduino Nano, 0.96" OLED display, and a trio of tac switches.
