Looks nice! Did you already tried to make PCBs? What about accuracy and resolution you achieve?
Do you have any sample pictures of the results, by chance?

Hey glassy, sorry for the delay! Yesterday I cut my first successful PCB. It needs some post-processing, but I wonder if the settings in Eagle/PCBgcode could be better. See the updated photos! Cheers, Tyler

Looks decent I would say!
I was looking recently at truly professional PCB milling machines to see how they are made and what specific solutions are used and tried to gess why. What I have noticed is that for PCB milling it is probably best to have the two-dimensional coordinate table and a fixed spindle with sturdy and very exact linear bearing. This would alow for less mechanical "noices". Also I noticed that adding some drops of lubrication help as without lubrication, due to high temperatures in contact areas, copper tend to melt and form microscopic coating on the cutting edges of bits.

But again - very nice result for the mainly plactic printed machine! Congrats!

Thanks! I've noticed the same thing about the coordinate system. That's harder to do with plastic construction, but I imagine it would make the machine much stiffer. Good idea about the lubrication, I should look into that. I purchased some surface mount components (MSOP-10) and will need to cut a board for them - fingers crossed!

a few drops-paddle of glycerol or sewing machine oil or similar would do for lubrication where the tool is cutting.

This seems beefier than a lot of the mills on here, and it's well documented. Thank you for your effort here.

Thanks for looking! The base is definitely very heavy, however I've found the 8mm rails to be a little light. So long as the axis are short it doesn't seem to be a problem.

The 500W spindle was the most expensive part - $66 on eBay (using a 15% off coupon). The power supply was used, $5. All of the metal was free. Rest of the hardware (motors, belts, pulleys, rails, bearings, fasteners) was about $80, and the other electronics were about $20. TOTAL: $170.
