Remix of Diamond Automatic Plant Water-er - Self Watering Plant Bulb by mxu9560
This is a reconstructed model based on the original, with a smoothed transition to the stem and more evenly distributed geometry, which should result in less errors during printing hopefully.
Walls are 2mm thick.
I printed this model using "Vase Mode" (Spiralized Outer Contour).
The dimensions are 100x100x180.
My best results with vase mode:
Smooth spiralize contours
Layer height .2
Line width .8 (double the nozzle width for stronger walls)
Print temp 230 (higher temp due to pushing more filament)
Bed temp 60
Print speed 15mm (slow af to allow the extra filament to heat & extrude)
Bottom pattern concentric at least 4 layers thickness (concentric looks nicer but is weak if too thin)
As far as I can tell the fatter & thicker the layers, the more translucent the result will be due to having less layer borders to refract light.
I used blender to retopologize this model.
The original model had an extremely dense downstem and interior, so I copied only the base outer shell from the original model, just the part with the gem facets.
I removed the extra triangulation from the STL file, then extruded the gem's opening edges into a downstem.
I then beveled the faces of the downstem to make the stem smoother, and that also created a smooth beveled transition between the bottom gem and the downstem.
Then I added a solidify modifier to give it a thickness of 2mm.
Then I used the bisect tool to cut an angled end to the downstem and removing the excess. The bisect fill option left some artifacts so I didn't use it, I used edge loop bridging afterwards which worked much better.
