I had to turn my model upside down to print good. Not sure if it's my printer settings or not but my supports barely held it when printed in it's original rotation.

Still turned out really good though! I'd post it in the "makes" but I have no idea how to.

If you can link some pictures so we can all see, that is a great way to work around posting makes!

my nephew wants this - do I lay it flat to print? anything else I should know?

For best results, I would keep it in this exact orientation. The best way to build supports for this is to use meshmixer (don't worry, its free!) and then slice it in Cura. If you click the following link, you can look at one of the models i uploaded with an example of what the supports should look like in meshmixer (it is the 7th picture from the start). The nice part about meshmixer is you can click and choose which supports you do and don't want. If you think something needs more support, just click and drag from the two points you'd want the support to hold. Let me know if you have any other questions:
