This model was made using the views of the topography made in Shepard (2016), in which the shape is modeled using radar adquisitions. There are other models of Psyche (Kaasalainen (2002), Hanuš (2017)), but they are made with the light curve, and are less detailed.
The file's names explained: name_1_x_10_y.stl is 1 : x * 10y. So _1_6_10_7 is 1:600000000 or one in 60 million.
Psyche is the biggest known M-type asteroid, that is an asteroid that in the surface has a mostly metallic composition, specially iron. Because of that it is though tha Psyche is an exposed nucleus of a protoplanet, similar to Vesta. Both of them are though to be disrupted by gigant collisions before aglomerate enough to form a planetary object. On 2022, it will be launched a probe named Psyche, from a mission of the same name, to orbit and explore the asteroid. The probe is expected to reveal details of the body surface including mapping the topography. It will show a totally new kind of surface relief, because the elasticity of the iron is different of that of silicate rock and ice, which form the surface other bodies in the Solar System.
