Description: This is designed to accept a Echo Dot Gen3, but an adapter ring is included which will allow a older Gen2 Dot to be used as well.
The original Candlestick telephone I designed for the Gen2 Dot could not be altered enough to accept a Gen3. If you will look at the photos included, you will be able to see why. The Gen3 is MUCH larger than a Gen2 Echo Dot!
So, the design had to be new and large enough to encase a Gen3. This made putting it in the speaker portion impossible, so it was moved to the base. A base ring was designed not only to give the Gen3 clearance, but to also allow venting holes, for better audio.
I think it looks good and works quite well at the job it was designed to do, hide the Echo Dot Gen3 in an attractive illusion of antiquity!
Printing. ALL of the parts were printed using PLA (CCTREE) on my CR-10s WITHOUT any supports. They turn out just fine. I print SLOW - @ 25mm/s print speed. If you choose to print faster then you may need supports, brims, rafts or whatever you normally use to aid in printing parts. My only real suggestion is to print the DOME using fuzzy skin (CURA). But you can print everything as you choose.
The base pipe used was 3/4" sprinkler pipe. Although adapters are provided to allow you to use almost anything you have on hand, provided you scale to fit.
I printed at .2, but you can do different if you choose.
I used 10% because it doesn't need a lot of strength just to hold a Dot up.
I print white, but you may chosse the colors you desire.
Designed to print WITHOUT supports as presented, but your mileage may vary and you may need them.
