Do you have a file that's not the end? Or at least a single piece by itself or something?

If you look under "Thing Details", on the side of the screen it'll show the file that this is a remix from--davinci85's Hex Chain (scale) Mail. That file will have the rest of the pieces you need to make a full sheet of this stuff.

I had the same problem when I first tried this project. I first tried to remesh the items into full hexagons, but there's actually a mesh error on these parts, so that proved to be difficult. Then I found the original file by searching all of Thingiverse (and MyMiniFactory, too, for some reason). Only now, when I went to specifically reply to your comment, did I realize that this object was linked to the original file the whole time. Oh well, live and learn.

Thank you for share it, is it possible to upload .3dm files of one set please

I would like to print one of these as an auction prize for a charity event if that's ok? With full credit given to you of course and a donation made :)

OK, no problem.

How many Hexes did you need? Is it possible that I could make this?

I forgot the quantity! Of course you can make your own!

Beautiful and complex . Amazing =D

How do you combine printed octahedron? Heating them at the end?
You are printing on which workspace? I have 20x20x20 and I wonder how it will print and connect?

we do it by hand, just print then assemble it without problem!

Tips on linking the sets?

I guess I need to ask, "What material did you use" to get a proper answer. ABS? PLA? Nylon? NinjaFlex?

normal PLA

normal PLA

Did you have issues with the links breaking off? The individual hooks seem brittle. I however used ABS so that may have been my entire issue.

PLA is much stronger than ABS. You should try!

What on earth gave you the idea that PLA is stronger then ABS?

Standard Results
PLA | ABS
Impact (ft-lb/in)
1.8 | 5.7 (ABS Wins)
Compressive Strength (PSI)
2600 | 1100 (PLA)
Tensile Strength (PSI)
6783 | 4936 (PLA)
Flexural Strength (PSI)
8970 | 5344 (PLA)

Other than impact, PLA is materialistically superior.

stuff be 3d printed by PLA does have better connection between layers and layers, better than ABS.

It looks really nice, it is very attractive to girls.

Its possible that I am wrong but it seems to me that at the very least one of the none ending parts are needed to be able to use this in some way.

Hi, is there any more information about this file? What is different between A and B? No different? Just repeat the file and print it?

just curious; what method did you use to adhere/attach the zipper to the hex chainmail?

Love this dress, but why is there only one file (B7_Ending.stl) uploaded? Do you have the other chain files? Thank you !

hello xcp, this model is totally customized - that means have to upload a lot of similar models.....

absolutely stunning design.

thanks for your kind comment.

I assume you joined sections together to make the full dress, do you have details or video of how this was done?

hello cyclone,
I just add 3 more photos of the details. The dimensions are measured by a 3d model in Rhino, which was scanned from Cubify SENSE scanner.

Oh my goodness! This is mind blowing! Awesome job!

Hey davince85,
you should check this one!

the size is close to 4m x 2m (63292 pcs / 8.72 kg)
I use 4 Flashforge printers with PLA with dual extrusion mode. ( 8 nozzles working at the same time, 27 days.)
will upload more information after MAKER FAIRE TAIPEI 2014.
Thanks for your sharing!

Is it strong enough to hold itself together? This is incredible. :)

Sure! Totally enough.
I add 3 nodes for stepping motor connecting, which allow us to remote control the "wave" from smart phone!
