How long does it take to print just the case? Cura is telling me 1 day and 13 hours.

Hi, is this suitable for Ender 3 also? or does it work only on the Ender 3 Pro?
Thanks

Hi, Ender 3 and Ender 3 Pro is the same structure, its just the extruder and some inside tools that are "better".
So, yes, it's suitable for Ender 3.

ARE U DRUNK !

No they are not the same. Ender 3 Pro has 40mm rails, and Ender 3 has 20mm !
So NO its not gonna fit.

whats the safest speed to print this on an ender 3 pro?

you can print it at normal speed with PLA at 60mm/s

This is by far the best thing I printed for my Ender 3 pro.

oh thats a realy nice comment ... ty

I printed the case out and it is just to big to fit. I made sure to print the pro version

Does the drawer sit flush with the bottom of the control box or does it touch the table the printer is sitting on?

Well it dosent touch the table....in one end :D ...take a look a the picture.

Do I need to take off the front of the Y axis to fit this case into place?

Thanks for the contribution to this Ender 3 Pro dual drawer design.
Do I need to take the printer apart to place the drawer under the Ender 3 Pro?
Sorry, I couldn't find a way to fit it in place....

Oh yes. 2 screws for the display, and 4 screws for the Y axis.
And then you have to find a solution for the cable to the display, as theres no room behind the drawer for that. And it can't be placed on top of the drawer as well.

Curiously what was your solution then?

Prolong the exitsting cable

Just printed it out and it seems to work great. Thanks for the design!

Also, I downloaded the files just before you "corrected" the upper drawer's missing wall in the back. But personally I prefer the missing wall. It makes it easier to store the allen wrenches there!

Well, you're right, it could be a little easier to take them out, but at least mine are fitting well also with the wall, even with play on the sides...

Oh for anyone reading ... Print the outer case vertically !!!

Yes, vertically makes much more sense. But just because I'm curious: could you post a make here from the result, when you print it the other way round? Just to get a feeling what happens in such cases... Would be nice.

I've thrown it away without taking a photo. But it was what you'd expect - globby messy bridging hell.

O-oh, there seems to be an error in the upper drawer (version 3)! The wall of the last small internal compartement (rear left) seems to be missing. There is just a small line in the preview, but not a real wall, and it's not printed at all... :-(

But at least it seems to fit well now with version 3... ;-)

Do you plan to correct this, or is the error just on my side? Thanks in any way, it's a nice drawer!!

yep, thanks for the helpfull advise.
I've fixed it an uploaded it with the same filename V3_TOP_DRAWER.stl

Thanks a lot and sry for my late reply.

Great! Thanks very much! Will try it over night this evening. I would have been using the drawer also as it was, with this small error, but I also encountered a delamination after a print interruption at height 5mm, which caused the main wall around the drawer to fall apart... :-)

Fits perfectly now, thanks!! :-)

Printed Version 3 with a print resolution of 0.06mm and with a nozzle of 0.4mm (about 3 days of printing for bottom drawer and housing together plus something more than a day for the upper drawer) and it looks awesome. Thanks very much for sharing this!

Only thing I would change the next time: building a brim around the print would improve the lowest layers, as they lifted up slightly on my magnet plate (even though using PLA...). It's viewable a little bit on the bottom of the front of the bottom drawer. But you have to know about it. ;-)

Ah, and there was a delamination of the top (when mounted in the printer after printing it out) layer of the casing. Don't know, if my temperatures weren't chosen good enough. I had 200°C for the tip and 55°C for the bed. But also there, if you're not touching the housing, you can't see it, and it's definitely not a big problem at all.

So thanks a lot - and for everyone who is new here: THIS DRAWER JUST FITS THE "ENDER3 PRO" VERSION AND NOT THE "ENDER3" VERSION!

Just realized that ender 3 and pro are different in this portion, sorry

Just printed this version 2 for the last three days and......it doesn't fit lol
At least on mine there is not enough space between frame and motherboard

does this fit on ender 3 (not pro)?

I also printed for my ender 3 pro...:

BOX: perfect !
perfect measurements and precise installation.

DRAWER:
i printed it 100% original dimension but are too precise!!! zero tollerance.
and the drawers do not fit well.

as suggested by others I will run a new print but the 99% dimension.

i think that the drawer should be more slim in any direction.

and have a play of 1 mm less. 0.5mm per side (height width depth)

at the bottom is only a drawer! not a mechanical precision component! must enter and exit well!
a possible magnet housing upgrade to lock the drawers and an upper stop block to keep the drawers from falling.

UPDATE:13.06.2019 (Please use V3_ Files!)
Completely redesigned for a better fit with many improvements:
~ Drawers slightly reduced
~ The lower drawer and the box area are smaller on the left side to increase the airflow of the mainboard vent
~ new handles for printing without supports
~ Rear opening for ventilation when opening and closing the drawers

I have an Ender 3 (non pro). How smaller should I make them? In %. THANKS!

well i think it will not fit for the nonPro. even not by resizing it

Its works on ender 3 :) Just a litle oversize

As there are the cooling/airflow openings on the left side, there should be a update to take this into account

Yeah, exactly my concern.

Nice Work.

Don't you have any problems with the board fan, since the bigger drawer fits right onto the opening for board fan on the left? That space might have been left open for the fan to draw air from there I think.

Do I need to remove something from my printer to install these drawers?

Yep, you have to remove the beltholder and the Display-Unit

are either of the drawers long enough to fit the putty knife included with the ender 3?

no the putty knife does not fit

Does this have space to accomodate for the ribbon cable and cable clips?

The cable of course, but i have not tested it with any clips

Hey, is it possible to have the fusion360 file ?

I just post a make of your drawer set. It is really nice and functional. I used the new drawer files. I don´t know if it was intentional but the drawers handles are not aligned. I didn´t even think about taking out the letter because I see them as your signature in your work. Thank you.

I do really like the design and I see why you would embed text on it. However, how would I go about printing this without the text?

The big drawer is too big. He does not enter the box.

I, too, had this problem. I was able to get a great fit by printing the drawers at 99% size.

I have the same problem. Busy troubleshooting.

Edit:

So I think I've figured it out, while this is a stunning design, it appears that even at layer height of 0.16 the 0.2mm Tolerances are too tight and besides it getting stuck on the sides of the enclosure (Case) it also forms a vacuum.

I mitigated this by drilling small holes in the back of the Case for air to escape and to break the vacuum lock. Further I lightly sanded the edged of the actual drawers on all edges that slide into the case. This solved the problem and made this print fully functional for me.

I've also made a version without the DWS branding and put an Ender logo there instead (personal preference). I'll upload it as a remix.

Any questions, feel free to shout.

Credit to the original designer!

Thanks for your comment. I recently designed a V2 version of the drawers that is a bit smaller, but the idea with the small holes on the back was interesting. I think, I'll make a V2 of the box with the holes.

Hey! Tyhis is good. Have you created the new files?

didn't work for me the drawer was to big for my ender 3 pro

Where is the problem? the housing or the drawers? If you can see, my print fits perfectly. I even have 0.2 mm clearance to the sides.
do you realy have an "Ender 3 Pro"? or non Pro? cause it fits only on the Pro

Re-printing the drawer at 99% was perfect. Thanks for the design and he tips!!!

Which drawer did you scale down, the original or V2?

When I printed the second time, I printed both drawer(s) from v2 at 99%. My first print was scraping and sticking every time I opened or closed either drawer. May have been my print setup, since I am new and just getting the feel for the 3D printing process...

Cool deal, Thanks!
