This "evolute" path model was created in Maya using the liquidbuddha.studios Cosmic Geometry VFX toolkit (open-sourced on GitHub). An "evolute" (short for Evolutionary Wavefront) is an expression of toroidal geometry, which traverses the surface of a torus, defined by the number of "loops" or "turns" around the torus. With the Cosmic Geometry toolkit, you are able to create a torus of any height-ratio, any number of turns. A simple extrude of the path creates the printable geometry (also part of toolkit).
This specific model is a combination of two mirrored 6-turn evolutes, creating a "double torus". The dimensions are of a traditional "donut" style torus, with a height-ratio of about 0.618 or phi.
