How do the two pieces joint together. I can't see from the STL files and obviously I need to trust that these are secure and that it can carry the weight of a camera and rig

Hi nickwild! push the bolt trough the front section of the handle and then glue the other part and puch it in the back of the first. I´ve been using mine with an D5100+battery grip and a really heavy fisheye lens and it is really sturdy. I used regular superglue and was not able to separate the parts after gluing them :)

Great Martin, many thanks and thanks for creating!

The grip is from Raceface and it´s a great grip! :D

Yes, the structure is just a plain cylinder divided in two parts so you kan push the bolt trough the first section. The other section locks in to the first an also has a hole in the back of it so you can put an bicycle handlebar endcap in it for better finish. Slap a bicycle grip on it for better comfort :)

How come the image is of this beautifully textured thing, and the model is just a plain cylinder?

Because he's showing the "15mm rig handle" not the handlebar grips. =]
