Thank you for this, great solution, simply sorted

Great idea!
I'd like to suggest an improvement for the V2: a way to spin it with a drill to wind the solder easily

Done!

I designed a small part to hold in a cordless drill that hooks into the spool so you can wind it up in seconds rather than minutes. As well as a near perfect fit base for the Tic Tac box.

A very cool addition to my Repair Cafe tool bag!

When buying the Tic Tacs, I saw the 49 gramm jumbo Tic Tac boxes in the store. I wonder if two wider spools could be fitted on top of each other inside one of those - one for regular 1mm solder and one for the 0.56mm finer SMD solder ;-)

I have some of those jumbo 49g Tic Tac boxes and was thinking about doing a jumbo spool for them as this design has been quite popular.

I only have 0.7mm solder but I like the idea of a dual spool version inside the jumbo box, there is enough space inside for two of the current diameter spools (but wider), I'll get on it this week :)

Cool! I am looking forward to it!

First proper test print, nearly there, sits in the main part almost perfectly but needs about half a millimeter shaved off the top dimensions to fit in the lid properly.

Check back in a day or two for the Jumbo Tic Tac Solder Dispenser. It'll have two versions; a single large reel and a dual reel (each reel will hold nearly double the amount of the solder the original dispenser can carry).

Could you add something like a bracket between the two spools that will keep the solder from the lower spool closer to the outside wall to prevent it from unspooling the upper spool inadvertently?

I already made one! Many thanks!! :-)

Thanks for posting a make picture of it :) Hope you get some good use from it!

That's a great idea, I'll do that, along with offsetting the spools so the top one isn't stacked immediately above the bottom one to further help prevent that potential issue.

This is amazingly genius!

Seriously brilliant. Wow!

Cheers! It was an evening well worth spent designing it, something I actually use regularly because it holds the solder in place so well for tinning wire etc.
I've already given away the Tic Tac box with solder pictured :)

You are a genius. This is freaking amazing.

V.

Thanks, I'm surprised such a thing didn't already exist, these tough boxes are ideal for holding delicate structures like this design.
