Awesome model. Why did you specifically choose the "Rogue One Mining Tug Explosion" as your explosion model?

I wanted to have a cool looking explosion shape so I used the setup I did for that shot in Rogue One. I did all of the fx for that shot that I put in the images and thought it would be cool to be able to print a sim I did at work. It's not the exact same data used in the movie but it's the same setup. I just removed the ship collision and added fire to the base. The wide smokey base was created procedurally to help the thing stand up ok.

From Thing Details: "This is a replication of the mining tug explosion I did in Rogue One". Maybe he worked on that movie :)

Yep, that's me. I work in the ILM FX department and am looking for ways to print some of my work.

Awesome work on that movie. The sims were unreal. Especially at the end. I have a VFX company in Toronto...we have just gotten into 3d prints of some of our models. Handmaid's tale...
Question about this model - did you paint the black on the edges? Or take a blow torch to it ?:)

I'd also love to know how you got that nice explosion "color"
