Nice project, but definitely unsafe for lithium based cells without supervision. When the charge current eventually drops to less than 10% of the charge current you started with, the charger should be disconnected.

I like the design, and it will come in handy for charging my lithium cells.
However, do you think it's really fine to use a CC/CV charging circuit with NiCd, NiMh or even alcaline batteries ?
I heard that would cause improper cells to overcharge, and thus leak. What do you think ?

I think leaking is most of the time due to fast charging as the battery warms up causing gasses to expand in the cell. This causes the seals to break and the leaking occurs.
Rechargeable batteries are designed to cope with this, but alcalines not, so If you keep charging currents low the battery stay cool and internal pressure should be minimal.
Some alcalines may leak, that is something alcaline batteries do sometimes even without beeing recharged.
I just built the charger and I charged a few without problems, but I will post info if I get issues...no news, good news...
I read also that CC/CV charging is not that bad for nickel based batteries, somebody thinks it is better than CC...
