I was looking for a hand as a jewelry stand and yours was looking great. I printed it, however, it doesn't even stand on its own, it falls backwards as the whole hand is tilted (you can see it on the actual photos). So sadly I'm still looking. This hand is not useful to hold anything, but it's great as decoration if that's the purpose for printing it.

Correct, during printing we filled the hand with sand / rocks or some metal nuts and bolts to counterweight the model.

Oh that's an interesting idea. Might have to try it out because so far this design is the most pleasing to the eye as a jewelry display. Jewelry customers do not appreciate jewelry photos showing them displayed on zombie hands :) The more realistic the hand, the better, so they can see how the jewelry might really look on their hands (especially when buying online). So I'll make it work somehow :)

I'm a bit confused here, so 'splain me this: I printed this hand and it printed beautifully with no infill at all and only 2 shells, took about 3 hours. I just took it off the bed and it looks excellent! Now tell me, how does it hold my cell phone? For one thing the phone slips out of the slick PLA surface every time so I'm thinking of asking the staff here for a medical glove lol, but even with that my iPhone 5s does not seem to fit in any position on the hand. Please explain, thanks!

oh, and thanks for the model, I like it even if it does not work as a phone holder!

Make history!

This is a great build that even a beginner can do. It looks creepy in shiny, black PLA! Thank you for posting, Tweetonig :)

How much does that hand weight?

Hi, sorry for the late response but the scanning is done with 123Catch. We made a intractable about it! http://www.instructables.com/id/3D-scan-your-head-and-use-it-as-an-chess-piece/http://www.instructables.com/i...

You can scan your own hand? How do you do it? Would you be willing to upload a bunch of ASL alphabet models?
