I designed this with OpenSCAD (geometry), Blender (texture), MeshMixer (texture), and Microsoft 3D Builder (assembly) based on a screenshot from the TV show Continuum and a diagram on a fan wiki.
I took a few artistic liberties: The details on the inside follow spiral pattern with some parts randomly missing. I gave the stabilizers an eye-like shape instead of an oval to make it look a little more occultic. I also ignored the scenes where the outside of the device is silver. Most of the early closeups show bronze/stone on the outside.
I am currently working on a power source so that I can power the device and travel back in time 3 weeks to save myself the trouble of trying to render this thing with just OpenSCAD. ;)
I had to enable "Detect thin walls" in Slic3r to get the details on the bottom to print right.
I glued in cylindrical neodymium magnets that were 4mm in diameter and 3mm in thickness. I used 2 coats of black automotive spray primer and 2 coats of "Hammered Copper" spray paint. I brushed on a "Chalky" black acrylic paint and wiped it off with a paper towel while it was still wet to get an antique finish.
