Hi PhysiciSteve. Thanks heaps for this.
I've just used yours as "inspiration" and re modelled it in Onshape in order to use it in my Right Hand Drive golf R Wolfsburg, with a Galaxy Note 9 in a Samsung Leather flip case. I got most of the dimensions off of your Tinkercad file.
I've got it sitting nicely in the cavity and my phone is going in with a little wiggle (ill make some final changes and it'll be great), but I have a question: How do you get it to stay in place when removing the phone? Is it stuck in with tape or something, or have you modelled yours to jam fit into the car?

Hey! Glad you were able to adapt it to your needs.

I briefly mentioned this in the post-printing section - I used several layers of double-sided carpet tape on the bottom to hold it in place, but admittedly it does slip off the rubber liner if I don't pull the phone off exactly parallel to the cable. What I usually do is slip my right hand in to hold the mount while I pull the phone out with my left (reverse hands for you). The surefire way to keep it in place is to use some of that foam-core doublesided tape on the back and/or sides to make it pseudo-permanent (d-docks does this). My design was trying to prevent that.

awesome man! Gonna try it for my mk6 gli, tired of my phone sliding around on me. If it doesn't work, how'd you manage to get correct measurements inside the slot?

Sweet I hope it works out for you! I used a flexible measuring tape (like from a sewing kit) to make the measurements in tight spaces. I used an inclinometer app on my phone to measure the angle it would rest on the front lip of the console, then designed it around that. I used a digital caliper to measure everything else about the phone and cable to fit.
