Hi, I printed your design and it worked great while printing PLA in normal situation, but when I closed my enclosure to do an ABS print, the whole machine warms up, specially the plate where the extruder motor is mounted. and it is on this plate that the wire-holder is mounted/clamped. After this print (about 5 hours) the whole thing became loose because the hooks of it (on the metal plate and on the axis bushing) deformed and opened up. The pulling force from the filament roll above was enough to fully detach it.
So next improvement can be a fully closed hole for the bushing, and perhaps another way to secure it to the extruder-plate....

Yes, definitely useful.
However, I prefer to be able to grab the filament between my fingers in case I need to pull it back out of the extruder.
I found that using the pause function in my printer is not so reliable, so when I want to change the color / filament during a print use the filament-switch and that works well. This teflon tube addition makes that quite hard to do....

But... if you do not use that screw connector and just a (2.5 cm/ 1" long ) tube where the teflon tube fits in without clamping, you can push the teflon tube away from the extruder, exposing the filament.... best of both worlds....?

I never run the filament through the sensor when printing, I just stick a little piece in it and pull it out at the right moment!

Regarding you earlier remark about mounting the spool on top of the printer: I have re-enforced the verticals with metal bracing to the front and that makes the whole construction much more stable. No shaking anymore when doing honeycomb infill!
