That's right, this brush has 1600 printable bristles, printed as one part with the brush handle!! This set was entered into the Makerbot and Voodoo Manufacturing 'Smarter Living Challenge' for 2018 New York City Design Week and won Most Original Design!!
After being inspired by 'Hairy Lion' by primoz, we wanted to use the bridging method to make a functional and useful piece while showcasing the capabilities of of 3D printing when you think beyond what are considered limitations of desktop printers.
Spark up a conversation! We hope you enjoy!
Brush - 25%, Dustpan - 35%
Dustpan - The dustpan is best built vertically with the long edge on the build plate. This will ensure a sharp and even leading edge on the dustpan.
Brush - Under the Orient Tab in Makerbot Print, use the 'Place Face on Build Plate' function and select the small side of the longer end of the long skinny sacrificial bar attached to the bristles, now select 'Bottom.' This allows the bristles to be printed horizontal and creating the bridge as one .2mm layer. If you need help, see Image 4 above.
Print with support, but DO NOT turn on the 'Support Under Bridges.'
Preparing the Bristles!
Once the brush has been printed, using a shark exacto-knife or box-cutter, CAREFULLY cut down the edge of the long skinny bar, releasing the bristles from the sacrificial bar.
The fit may be a bit snug at first, but will soon fit perfect.
- Some bristles may get caught when putting the pieces together, just clip these off.
DONT pull or more bristles may fall off with it!
