How many torque can it transmit?

Can't say for sure, don't have any torque-measuring equipment at hand.

what type of screws are those

14 metric M3-12 Phillips-head countersunk screws;
12 metric M3 nuts.

What's up with the strange pattern on the walls? It's making both Slic3r and Simplify3D create a strange wobbly toolpath:

Same results in Simplify3d.
Modifying some settings improves it, but isn't perfect.

Our version of Simplify3D (4.0.1) has no such artifacts.

Mmmm.. I'm using S3D 4.0.0, could be that, although I don't think there's much difference between both versions.

Ok, I had this issue as well. I finally fixed it in Slic3r by using an advanced function where I changed the wall width (not layer height - wall width). In my version of Slic3r, the wall default width is .4mm or greater. I changed all wall widths to .3mm and it sliced appropriately and printed reasonably well. (Prior to that change, I had the same issue mentioned and several failed prints.)

This is a cool model. I would suggest making these not require hardware. I think they would be cooler if they didn't require non-printed hardware to assemble, and i think more people will be more inclined to make these if they can be fully 3D printed and assembled. Love your models, but haven't made any for this reason. Thanks for sharing!

Tried to print gears in 70% first. Print was very brittle in the center where it's thin. There were no real walls printed.
So i figured I might scale it up back to 100% to get more volume in that area. Same thing.

Any suggestions?

I'm having this same issue. The part actually broke in half when I went to remove it from the print bed. Did you find a solution that doesn't require buying a $150 slicing program?

Try a different slicer. We have always used Simplify3D and nothing else. Our prints are not brittle at all, although they tend to be less smooth in the middle compared to the ends.

Essentially, a hyperboloidal gear is modeled by twisting the bottom of the regular spur gear by a certain angle to transform the reference surface from a cylinder to hyperboloid. Also, the tooth thickness is reduced compared to the regular spur gear to account for the skewed shafts.

At the moment I'm used to fusion 360 but as I'm moving to an all linux environment. I'm considering freecad, but I see many people designing gears in Blender. But as far as I know it's not a real CAD program.

What would you suggest?

Still can't believe those gears can mesh together at that angle...
