What if you made the hinge stick out further? Then you could put some parchment paper over it and press a hot iron over it and “rivet” it in place. Just an idea great design and fun print. I’m going to make a few for the kids.

Do you mean to keep the two arms together? I haven't had any issues with them coming apart.

Hello, what a sweet desing? I made a simple remix for dome. It may improve the catching probablity :)

THE BUG CATCHER DOME ALTERNATIVE
by yazkili

Great idea!
The only issue for me, is that I won't get that close to a spider!

Love it! My daughter will use this for sure, and get the Centipede out... Will post a Make once it's done

I love insects, I even have had some for pets but Centipedes freak me out! lol

Awesome idea! :-)

I guess it could be easier to catch the bugs, if the cage would be put over the bug first and then slowly closing it by sliding the plate under it.

Maybe a square cage could be a solution, with grooves on both sides to let the plate slide under the cage for closing. With an attached spring you could even keep the great scissors look.

Just a suggestion ;-)

Great idea! I was thinking about making the cage go over the bug then pull the bug onto the plate but I think your idea of sliding the plate under the bug is way better. I'll see if I can figure out a way to make that work.

Thanks for the suggestion!

You're very welcome! :-)

I'm looking forward to see your next version.

Nice work!
Looks nice I'm going to give it a try.

Thanks, I really had fun designing it! My kids love it. I wish the bugs weren't so hard to get on the tray though. I have lots of ideas on how to make the next version more ergonomic but it would also be nice if it was more efficient.

If I saw this in a shop, I would buy it. Great idea and fun! Can't wait to try it out.
