i printed the test one. one row of pins worked. the rest either fell out or got stuck. i need to figure out what setting to tweak

It's a a difficult print, and definitely on the edge of what's possible with consumer FDM. Try setting extreme values for the various parameters in OpenSCAD and you'll get a sense for what they do.

Increase PIN_TAPER_MULTIPLE to prevent pins falling out. Increase PIN_CLEARANCE_MULTIPLE to make it less likely for pins to get stuck. But if you look on the bottom of the model you'll probably notice you'll lose contact between the frame and the bed. To fix that, increase PIN_SPACING.

If you're lazy you might also just try scaling the model up a bit uniformly or give up.

Hi, I very much appreciate the test piece for such models, Thanks.

Printing it out now, and I really hope my £99 printer can handle it :-)

What filament did you use in the second picture? Grayish? (I'm colorblind, but it looks nice.)
