I had some issues with my Z axis racking and felt it would be better if the Z carriage screws into the extrusions from multiple sides. It works great!
- Very sturdy
- Screws into three sides
- Separate bed support so it can be printed in its optimal orientation and is easy to remix
- Captive nuts
Apart from the printed parts you will also need 2 M3x10, 4 M3x20, and frame fasteners.
Print one bed support and then the body and clamp for your setup. I used triple perimeters for extra strength. The LM8 clamps may need support, depending on your bridging capabilities. The rest shouldn't need any support.
Printed bushings: Initially I used printed bushings for this, but I had issues with binding. I still use printed bushings on X and Y and they work fine, but for Z I recommend ball bearings.
Misalignment: Once installed there may be some misalignment, either from a bad print or the bed extrusions not being perfectly straight. This can be mitigated by adding a few slivers of tape between your LM8s/clamps and the body.
