Hi, I've made a remix. I hope you don't mind. https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:3439597

Hero Me Pen Holder

No problem, hope it fits!

Some works of art made using the CR-10 pen holder! Credit to mightynozzle for the customizable oragami files!

Cool design. Would be interesting if there was a way to give the pen some springiness like the updated hypercube one. Ill be thinking of that for a possible remix. Also, I thought the printer wont actually start a print of the extruder is unplugged?

I've designed several versions which can slightly move vertically, but it was hard to design a compact one. If I give it more vertical movement, it can also move and rotate in other unwanted directions. The one which is currently on my CR-10 seems to be working fine, which I might upload some day.

Also, the printer works fine with the extruder motor unplugged.

Alright cool. Looking forward to whenever you might upload that one! Im trying this version out now. Ill put some pics when I get some drawings! Just curious, how did you make the Gcode for the designs? Did you just turn a picture to an stl and make the printer print one layer?

I've uploaded the version with vertical movement, as you seem to really want to use it:)

That was the most tricky part... I used paint.net to turn images into HD quality (by blurring any changing the contrast), then used a website to turn the jpg into an svg file (which are vectors). Then I used a plugin in blender to import the svg file and extrude it (0.2 mm for example). Then you can use any slicer to slice it normally (which can take a long time however)

I see. I do a similar process with inkscape and fusion360. Inkscape to trace bitmap, save svg. Then Fusion to extrude. I found this cool spirograph image I wanted to draw, but I crashed fusion when I tried to import it. :/ Ill try with blender. Is the plugin already in blender, or is that separate?

Also, does your printer still drag the pen on the paper on travel moves? I have retraction and Zhop on, but sometimes the printer decides it doesnt want to zhop and makes marks where it shouldnt...I still got some cool drawings, posting now. The penguin has an example of the error I was taking about

It's already in Blender (and actually called add-on). My printer does not drag onto the paper on travel, I have set the z-hop to 1 mm. I'm using Simplify3D, with which you can clearly visualise the movements and z-hops. If you're interested, here are some stl-files I printed (some are extremely small and may need some vertical scaling)

Thanks! The dragon one is really cool! I made that, but there are a lot of streak where the pen wasnt meant to mark. I am using Repetier Host. Maybe this is an excuse to invest in S3D...

no need to invest first test the versions that are on the internet, and if you like your work pay the original version and everyone happy, take it as a test mode
