I wonder how well this would work connected to one of the cheap keychain dynamo flashlights. It could possibly trickle charge a small cellular backup battery.

I've used a 3 phase generator sold on ebay, but you could use a brushless cd motor, they're almost the same.

Is this dc motor the same ones used in cd players?

i also have another question.. iv'e heard that iPhones are very picky about the power they are being supplied, would a 5v voltage regulator make it less likely to break my phone? Also, would regulating amperage be something i should do too?

do the diodes and capacitors have to be specific? If so, then could someone tell me where i could get them? Thanks!

You can use any rectifier diode of more than 1A and any recycled electrolytic capacitor of any device of 20v and 16uf or more.

Can this (without modification) charge an iPhone?

mine is generating about 5,5V in an fast river so i can easily load my phone (samsung s5 mini)
i do not know how it works on Iphone
But when you PRINT THE TURBINE MAKE more infill or just make bigger walls cause it will brake
or use another more solid material like PE
i used ABS and it broke....

maybe for Cuervo RC it is possible to upload the Turbine in a better Version cause i can not do it.....

I have printed 2 turbines and they are very resistant, have been hit in the water and have not been damaged. try to print them at a higher temperature of 125-130º and with a 103% flow rate.

for next upload please make the Prop a bit bigger and heavier
it broke in 2pieces when hit hit the first ROCK

today i had printed the turbine
there were some parts on the outer ring that were cracked
(I will send you photo )
but make sure maybe to make the "Ring" of the turbine a bit wider to avoid cracks.

I have printed 2 and in one of them it happened to me, the first one took 6 hours to print and everything was fine but the second one I put it faster and that happened, that the outer ring was not printed well. But it still works well, it's the blue one you see in the pictures.

i printed it at 100percent print rate
but i glued it with Epoxy together so now its ok!

can you send an picture of the bigger gear with the mount of bearings ?
and one how you connect the electronic parts???

is that I can't take pictures now, but the bearings are embedded in the housing. and on the large gear only the shaft is inserted and secured with the pin.
And the electronic parts I have only used a three-phase rectifier, made with 6 diodes and a capacitor. And then on the wires that come out you can use a car charger to get 5 volts out of a USB socket.


can i buy something similar to your rectifier? nice design btw

Over NIght I had printed out the Turbine (very nice job (: )

the nail or the wire are just so that the shaft does not rotate with respect to the printed part. Don't worry. Just put something on it that you have around.

what parts did yu use to load that RunCam???


To charge the runcam I used a rectifier to convert the three-phase current from the generator to DC, and then I used a USB charger that plugs into the car's cigarette lighter. But as a generator you could also use a dc motor that would already generate in dc. Although it would possibly be less efficient.

How much power have you extracted?

With the gears that are published very little, but now I have modified the gearbox and have managed to generate 14w, although that takes a lot of water.

What did you change? higher ratio for more rpm?

Yes, I changed to have more rpm but I went too far and the turbine doesn't have the power to turn it unless there is a lot of current. I'll keep trying.
