A minimalistic approach to a Raspberry Pi 3 case. I have also added a few options to add some color and use a few different fan sizes.
Tips always appreciated and if you want to show off your makes I also like to see those :)
The case is designed to put minimal stress on the pi during installation and allow access to the inside without having to remove the pi from the case featuring a hinged lid.
All parts were designed with no supports needed. I also don't spend the time to orientate the parts to have the STL saved to show as printed. Make sure you rotate the parts correctly before slicing and printing.
I will do a quick rundown of the files supplied below.
Base configurations: MUST PRINT ONE OF THESE
ePIc_SnapPI_Base.STL - This is the main base w ventilation holes.
ePIc_SnapPI_Base_no_vents.STL - This is the main base w/o ventilation holes
ePIc SnapPI Base no vents wio.STL - This is the main base w/o ventilation holes but has a side recess if you want to run connections externally out of the case from the GPIO pins.
Cover configurations: MUST PRINT ONE OF THESE
ePIc_SnapPI_Cover.STL - This is the main cover to the case. You will have to print an insert option to fill the large hole in the top. The insert is snap in no hardware needed. This version includes the small vents around the perimeter.
ePIc_SnapPI_Cover_no_vents.STL - This is the main cover to the case. You will have to print an insert option to fill the large hole in the top. The insert is snap in no hardware needed. This version has the small vents around the perimeter removed.
ePIc SnapPI Cover no vents insert.STL - This is the main cover to the case. It has no insert cutout and no vents. It also has no mounts for a fan.
ePIc SnapPI Cover no insert 30mm fan.STL - this is the main cover to the case. It has vents for air movement. It has a cutout and holes to mount a fan to the lid. You will need to find and print your own 30mm fan grill as I have not included a file for one here if you want one.
ePIc SnapPI Cover no insert 40mm fan.STL - this is the main cover to the case. It has vents for air movement. It has a cutout and holes to mount a fan to the lid. You will need to print the 40mm fan cover included in these files if you want to cover the fan.
Cover inserts configurations: OPTIONAL PART TO PRINT
ePIc_SnapPI_Insert_r2.STL - This is the press in insert to the main cover. This includes the mounting holes for a 40mm fan. You will also need to print the 40mm fan guard if you choose this file if you want to cover the fan.
ePIc_SnapPI_NoFan_Insert_r2.STL - This is the press in insert to the main cover. There is only vent holes, no fan mounting.
Fan cover: OPTIONAL PART TO PRINT
ePIc_SnapPI_Fan_Cover.STL - this is for 40mm fan options. Only used in the covers printed that have 40mm fan option or the insert with the fan option.
You will need 4 screws to install the fan.
You can use 4 3mm screws to attach the pi into the base if desired. The way this is designed you will use the 3mm screws to thread into the 2.5mm holes that are in the pi.
After a little nudging I have added support for the new raspberry pi 4. new base and cover have RPI4 after them. Only one option for the cover currently. These are untested but feel 90% like there should not be any issues.
