hi savage rodent,

thanky you for the great rack! really nice job on math!!

i am tweeking your code a bit, becouse my jars have a lid that has a wider size than the diam of the jar... (from ikea)
i could manage to make the back thiker, that moves the jar away from the mounting wall.
but: i need to have more distance between the jars... i could customzie the "wall_thickness" but that makes everythin bigger. i want to keep the "wall_thickness" 1.5 but the distance from each jar shuld be min. 5mm.

can you give me advice how to? thank you, claudio

To do that isn't going to be overly simple. As your going to have to change a number of bits of code.

Firstly You'll want to create a new variable eg(extra_spacing = 7;)
Then go too "module combine_all_modules(){" werever "w" (w=width) is used to position the modules, insert "+extra_spacing"
one u have all the modules correctly spaced.
u will also need to create new object that fills the gap now between compartments and insert it befor the back and front height are cut.
finally u will need to play around with "module round_between_com(){"

good luck

ok... tahk you.....
i made your suggestions.. but still some more changing to do...
i'll have a look later....
thank you :)

i've uploaded a new version of the rack with the changes u mentioned.

These are great, for those of us who are not designers could you remix a few files for different standard sizes such as the very common 32 oz 1 Quart "Ball Jar" :)

hi CastawayVoyager

For me personally, the whole point of designing something in OpenScad is to create a tool that anyone can use to make their own customized version of an object.
I would encourage you to have a go at it yourself. You wouldn’t have to write any code, just change the values for a few, well labelled, parameters such as Diameter, Height, Number_or_compartments, etc.
OpenScad is only a small program and is free to download. See link below.

I’m not going suggest that you learn OpenScad, but if you take a look at the video link below, it will give u a very quick overview of the user interface. Everything else you need to know should be in the notes worked into the Customizable Rack scad file itself .

good luck 

Nice. Do you work for Sainsbury's? JS spices and orange filament :)

i hadn't thought of that :) i wonder if they'd be willing to pay me commission
