how peoples finished 3D parts wery shining and clean, polish somethink or what have work proces. my all parts come only printer coarse surface.PLA have wery hard make anything at sandpaper i test some parts but no good.

Try using abs with an acetone wash and maybe sanding before

Or just render it and photoshop the coffee surface into it.

Printed it in PLA, looks real nice.. filled it with water, looks real nice.. put it in microwave, nice blob :D

Does anyone know if it is "food safe" to drink in a cup made of ABS? Especially hot beverages like coffee... Thanks in advance for the answer! :)

I agree with laflaf3d.

No general statement can be made about the food safety of filaments or filament classes, but only for one specific product itself. And then also not by us laymen, but only according to the regulatory rules that are prescribed e. g. by the FDA. Each manufacturer uses different additives in his product. These can be dyes, for example, but also substances that influence printability or surface properties.
However, if the main component itself is already harmful, then you probably don't have to worry about the additives any more.

But in general it is a bad idea to drink hot drinks from a low melting plastic cup.

ABS and PLA are not approved for food. Some PLA (like French NatureWorks's PLA) are food approved but check it before use for food. PET is more advised for food.

Hey SPGilmore, you got a very good question there.
I didn't thought about that yet. Because this design was originally made to be printed in ceramics (like at Shapewayse).

But, I looked up the materials and found out that PLA is by it self already sensitive for water and higher temperatures, so i would use that.
With ABS i read 'The maximum operating temperature is between 85 ° C and 100 ° C', so you can put hot water in it. I also found out that disposable cups can be made out of ABS.

Now, on a hygienic point of view: (This is for all 3d prints used in consumption) The print layers are a good place for bacteria to nest and hard to clean.
I prefer to use an good smooth acetone finish so your print doesn't have layers anymore.

ps; i'm not a scientist, so after all useage is at your own risk.

An interesting cup. I'm new to this hobby, but if ABS is toxic and PLA melts at 180 degrees and coffee is usually brewed at 190+ degrees, is there not a good chance that someone will drink their cup along with its contents?

At a normal 1 atmosphere ambient air pressure, water turns to gas at 100'C. 190'F is about 88'C which is a good temperature for brewing coffee and may be the source of confusion.

Coffee cannot be brewed over 100 degrees in normal conditions :P

To boil it, is to spoil it.

I've made PLA espresso cups for the local coffee-house. Wall-thickness is your friend, and educate the barristas on heat-transfer while you are there.
