Owners of a Prusa Geeetech Al who have carried out all the mod I published here, mainly the Z axis, ( http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:1830451, https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:2504861 ) are the proud owners of the best Prusa, no wobble, noise, vibration, fast, accurate AND simple.
See my other things (bearings, filament guide ...as they are used here).
But could it be made even simpler by getting rid of the Z smooth rods ?
"Good news everyone" (Professor Farnsworth) it can !
Indeed, the TR8 leadscrews are straight enough and can be used as guides too. The trick is to make Igus TR8 nuts with a perfect fit. Ball screws would do too but are far too expensive.
Note that TR8 are not as rigid as the 8mm smooth rods, TR10, TR12 would be better. Anyway the moving mass on X is about 250g. No that much vibration.
Sorry, I don't provide step by step instructions, no time for it. Most of it is explained in my previous things. Furthermore to implement this requires knowledge and skills that make these superfluous. Qualified people I am OK to help though.
